Asas de Portugal T-37B Tweet

The 1978 airshow was the first appearance at Ramstein of the Portuguese aerobatic team, the Asas de Portugal (Wings of Portugal).  The team had been formed in 1977 as Portugal recovered from a long period of military rule; this airshow might have been the first appearance of the team at a NATO base.  

Seeing these brightly painted, beautifully flown aircraft was a treat no one was expecting to see--they were something of a last minute addition.  They were so last minute that the airshow brochure listed them as the "Ass de Portugal," which I'm sure earned someone an asschewing.  

Whatever the case, these guys could get the most out of an old airframe (even in 1978!) as the T-37.  Dad caught this one in a low pass over the crowd.
