Description
This UH-34 was one of 20 transferred from the USMC to the South Vietnamese Air Force around 1963. Though the H-34 was a reliable helicopter, spare parts were scarce and the SVAF struggled with keeping them operational. Survivors were returned to the US Army in 1969 in favor of more UH-1s. This helicopter was retired and languished for years in open storage in Arizona; when acquired by the Evergreen Aviation Museum, it was little more than a wreck. It was then restored in full South Vietnamese markings to the condition seen here, one of the few remaining examples of a SVAF aircraft.
