Washington Monument

Description

As I may have mentioned before, I finally got a chance to visit Washington DC this year--I'd never been there before.  I only had about 12 hours to explore, but I managed to get in most of the sights.

One of them, of course, was the Washington Monument.  You see this in movies and on postcards and such, but you never really realize just how big this structure is until you're near it.  Then you realize why this is one of the few structures in North America predicted to survive 500 years into the future!

It had just opened after being repaired from earthquake damage, so I didn't brave the line to get in--that I didn't have the time (I wanted to get to the Vietnam Memorial) or the inclination (it was 85 degrees with 90% humidity, and this Montana boy ain't used to that).  Still, impressive to see.
